How do I remove the hard drive from a Dell Inspiron 1100 Laptop?

My DELL 1100 laptop died. I need the data off of it. The only way I can retrieve the data is removing the hard drive. I have another Dell 1100 that I can install my hard drive to save the data. I want to know what steps to take in removing the hard drive. I am a computer technician but have not operated on a laptop before. How do I remove the hard drive from a Dell Inspiron 1100 Laptop?Usually near the edge of your Notebook PC you will see one screw on the bottom which after removing your Notebook PC hard drive will easily slide out...

Then you have like 2 choices: (i) some of PC stores that carry a lot of electronics (like the old Comp USA that went out of business) sell "SUB to SATA/IDE HARD DRIVE ADAPTER" at retail places like MICRO CENTER that will hook up to any hard drive specifically for the sole purpose of temporarily reading %26amp; copy files, (ii) and another choice that is probably easler to find is an external 2 1/2" hard disk enclosure %26lt;= probably waste of money for one time use but if you bought it then later after reformatting you could your old Notebook hard drive as External Hard Drove

Flip the laptop over and their should be a few panels. If you do not have the manual, open all the panels up.

One is for memory, it's a large chip. Not what you are looking for, close that one up.

Next panel should see a rectangular device. Look for something that say xxxgb that is the HD. It can be numerous companies such as seagate, Maxtor, Western Digital. etc. It's probably one of those three. It;s just screwed on, so that's all you have to do to remove it.

Make sure your other laptop handles the HD capacity. That's it and now switch them. How do I remove the hard drive from a Dell Inspiron 1100 Laptop?there should be a panel on the back on the laptop...
