I just received a Dell inspiron 1501 laptop. The battery lasts about 3 hours.Is that normal and is there a way to make my battery last longer?Also does the first charge determine how long my battery will last?How long is a Dell inspiron 1501 laptop battery suppose to last?~3 Hours sounds normal to me for a 15.4" Widescreen LCD Laptop.
You can however boost your battery life by configuring your profile and using cool and quiet from AMD to keep your processor running slower. The slower it operates, the less power it takes.
To adjust your hardware power profile, go to your control panel, select power options and decrease shutdown times for monitor, hard drives, etc.
You may or may not want to do this, but that is an option.
An alternative would be to get a backup battery and carry it with you. A lot of laptop users who need it for an extended period of time use this.

The 6 cell gets u about 3 hours, and there is a 9 cell which i got which gives me about 4 hours gaming and around 6-7 hours just messing about in windows, and no the first charge doesnt make any difference, lithium ion has no memory effect, hope this helps
