My old Dell came with Vista installed. Now I'm building a new PC and want to install Vista on it. Dell only gave me the Dell reinstall CDs, which I think just give a message saying they won't install on a PC that is not Dell. Since I paid for Vista and have the serial/activation info, isn't there a way to get it on a new PC?Is it possible to transfer Windows Vista from my old Dell to my new PC?No. What you have is an OEM copy, which can only be used on Dell hardware.
Also, once activated, Vista (all versions, not just OEM) is tied to that hardware. When it's activated it connects to the MS servers and registers the key as well as information on the computer, like motherboard and CPU serial number. If you install it again, it has to activate again. When it connects to the server, it sees that the serial number has already been activated. It checks the hardware information on record to see if it's being reinstalled on the same machine. If yes, it activates. If not, it doesn't. This is why replacing one or more components in the same machine can make Vista think it's pirated. Is it possible to transfer Windows Vista from my old Dell to my new PC?You "paid for" an OEM version - that not only can't be installed on a different kind of computer, it can only be activated on the SAME computer it came on. There's no way to do what you want.Is it possible to transfer Windows Vista from my old Dell to my new PC?yes the easiest way is to copy for partition, use this it works great and you don't have to reinstall everything elseIs it possible to transfer Windows Vista from my old Dell to my new PC?
No there is not.
The version of Vista which comes on your Dell is filled with Dell drivers and propiretary software.
Even if there was a way for you to extract Vista and install it onto your new computer, you wouldn't want to.
Dell makes sure a lot of additional (useless) software is installed onto your computer every time you use their reformatting process.
If you want Vista, either pirate a copy on the net with a valid CD Keygen. Or if your moral standing is too high for something like that, buy a fresh copy.
