I used a Reinstallation disk for Dell windows XP home with service pack 1 (but upgraded to sp3 since then), but I put it on a HP computer. My 30 days have run out, and I now need a product key to access windows. How can i obtain a free one of these?Installed windows xp homer sp1 onto an hp using a dell reinstall disk, now i need a product key?check on your dell computer and see if there is a little green sticker there with the license key on it. You can also download utilities which will dig out your license key from your other computer. I think, however, that Microsoft Genuine is going to get you! Their bots run all the time to verify keys and hardware and when they find that the same key is on two different sets of hardware, they are going to shut one or both computers down.
There is no such thing as a free lunch when it comes to Microsoft.Installed windows xp homer sp1 onto an hp using a dell reinstall disk, now i need a product key?You will need exactly the key for your disk, then it will refuse to activate as the site will see it was installed on a different machine. It will also cancel the original activation, making the disk useless even for recovery. You will need to buy a disk.Installed windows xp homer sp1 onto an hp using a dell reinstall disk, now i need a product key? That was a really bad move. You CANNOT use another oem disk from another computer to be installed onto different computer. OEM operating system disc are marred to the computer they came with. it all different software and drivers. The dell and hp are to different computer.
You just really screwed yourself over big time. You need to contact hp and get the correct hp cd for your computer, otherwsie you are going to have big time program.Installed windows xp homer sp1 onto an hp using a dell reinstall disk, now i need a product key?
If I remember correctly, when using an oem disc on another brand of pc, the installation will prompt for a product key...if your pc is indeed an HP there should be a product key label on the pc, but you will need to call microsoft to have the key enabled...unless they've changed their policy.
