How come I cannot change the BIOS on my Dell Inspiron 1545?

I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, and was told i could help increase it's performance by changing settings in the teBIOS before startup. I pressed f12, scrolled down to BIOS and clicked it. All it gave me was a menu showing me a whole slew of data but was read-only. I could only change things like the date/time. Can someone tell me how i can change things like shared memory on my specific model?How come I cannot change the BIOS on my Dell Inspiron 1545?Some data is read only but usually there are many pages and the read only data is primarily on the first page. There may be a piece of text saying something like "press f-12 for next page" or tabs on top of the page or something. If all else fails go to the dell website and download your manual here:
