Cant get the ethernet controller to work on a Dell inspiron 4100, how can I make the drivers work?

I have recently reformated my Dell Inspiron 4100 with XP Professional. I tried installing all the drivers for XP from support.dell.com but nothing has worked at all. I have no wireless internet and no internet thru direct connection.
