How do i figure out if a monitor will work with my Dell inspiron 531S computer?

I got a Dell inspiron 531S from a friend and i currently own a Dell Dimension B110. When I tried to hook up the new computer to my old monitor it wouldnt work, so i am going to buy a new monitor but I have no idea how to find the correct one. HELP!!!How do i figure out if a monitor will work with my Dell inspiron 531S computer?You have to use the same type of connector (or use an adapter) and to plug it in (electricity and video), i don't see why it wouldn't work if this is done right.How do i figure out if a monitor will work with my Dell inspiron 531S computer?okay make sure what kind of connector your computer has. if its a blue connector the its VGA. if its White then its DVI. most new monitors will support both types.
