I have a Dell E6400 laptop. My AC adapter stopped working so I purchased a new one. It is an off-brand that included tips to fit 7 different laptops. The laptop works but the battery is not charging. Stays at 0%. Every time I turn it off, I have to re-boot the whole machine. Any suggestions? I think something needs to be re-set.My Dell laptop battery is not charging, what is going on?Eh, although as the evidence suggests, the problem is the battery I just can't help but to say it isn't. I mean, if you didn't know, Dell laptops need to work only with Dell chargers. The AC adapter (charger) is not built for your Dell E6400, its built for "all" laptops. Well that isn't the case. Time after time there is just undeniable proof that universal chargers don't work, ESPECIALLY with Dell.
I would suggest you get the right charger, one that is for your specific laptop, before you go and spend 100 or so bucks on a new battery.
You can look on line on sites like ebay or amazon but I would personally suggest you visit Topmic instead. Topmic is well known for their great services and their durable products. They include free shipping and free lifetime warranty. Yes, lifetime. This means if the charger ever stops working on its own for whatever reason, they would replace it as many times as needed at no additional cost, for life.
This is a great way to save money in the long run and a good investment as well.
I took the liberty of finding the charger you needed on their site for you:

Best of luck.My Dell laptop battery is not charging, what is going on?The 6400 is like 6 years old. A battery is expected to last about 2 years. It is likely you need a new battery. The 6400 and its twin, the 1505 were remarkably reliable units. It COULD be an issue with the charger or the mobo, but unlikely. If the unt works when on ac it is not a bad ac adapter and unlikely to be a mobo issue. My Dell laptop battery is not charging, what is going on?Maybe your battery is dead, literally speaking and can't charge anymore
