Why wont the sound work on my dell inspiron 4000?

Why wont the sound work on my dell inspiron 4000 i can plug in headphones or my stereo and listen to it but i want to be able to use the built in speakers. I have reloaded windous multiple times and that dident healp.Why wont the sound work on my dell inspiron 4000?- try downloading the driver from dell.com; install it again

a connector came loose inside the laptop that hook to the laptop speakers when i took it apart reroute the cable so that there was no strain on the connector , found this on some of the laptop i work on in the past,this might not be the problem with yours,but it's a start,also check your volume control panel make sure nothing is mute,Why wont the sound work on my dell inspiron 4000?ohh..

if you are using realtek HD audio manager (brown speaker icon), you can change the setting. there is one that can make ur :

builtin speakers shut even if u dont have headphones pluggedin;

speakers always work doesnt matter if headphones pluggin or not;
