I have a Dell XP and I've had it for a while (maybe like 3-4 years?) and I want to reformat my computer. The only problem is; I can't find the reformat disk. Is there a way to reformat my computer without it?
Thanks in advance. Is there a way to reformat a Dell P without the reformat disk?If your computer is an Inspiron or Dimension, you still have the original hard drive and it still has its original partitions, power on the computer and press Fn+F11 while the Dell logo is on the screen. If it boots to a PC restore by symantec (or something similar) utility your system can be reinstalled using that tool. It will reformat your hard drive and install the software that was factory loaded, and once it has finished, you will need to follow the initial windows XP setup to have the system running again.
If your computer is a Latitude, an Optiplex or other model, that option is not available, you need the operating system CD to reinstall.
Feel free to contact me if you have more questions.
Ces.
P.S.: You may need to press the Fn+F11 key combination more than once at the Dell logo, and perhaps try more than once. If the Windows XP splash screen appears, it's too late. Power off and try again. Is there a way to reformat a Dell P without the reformat disk?
A way to do it is to get all the reformatting info from the internet and burn it on a disk and use it. I have seen my friends done it before, but not sure it will work.
