Saying that though I did like the midi length skirts, flared jeans and halter neck tops.
As for footwear I was more practical than stylish.
So were/are you in keeping with the times and maybe you have an opinion on the current look?

http://trendland.net/2010/07/01/mens-fas鈥?/a>Hi fellow seniors, were/are you a follower of fashion?
I've now reached the age where nobody cares what I wear. Some of my clothes have been in fashion at least 3 times.
I think that fashion is fascinating. There's so much art involved in the design of clothing, shoes, and jewelry. I'm a firm believer in the idea that anyone can have style, no matter what your budget. Style doesn't mean following the trends; it means choosing clothing that makes a statement about yourself. Some of the most stylish people I know shop at WalMart and the thrift store. They just know how to put their "finds" together to make a style or fashion statement.Hi fellow seniors, were/are you a follower of fashion?
No, and if you have to dress like the way they say you should that should show one something about themselves. Clothes should be comfortable and good looking but not everyone is a model, and shoes need to be comfortable, if they aren't wait until you can't walk properly when you're older.
I always say if one wants to be a clothes horse, then maybe one should live in a barn.
Hi Lily,
I guess the only time I was keeping up with the times was a leisure suit (and we know how long that lasted...LOL).
I dress to be comfortable, and prefer a suit and tie to be formal.
So I never really did try to keep up with current trends. I didn't like many of them and it was expensive.Hi fellow seniors, were/are you a follower of fashion?
I'm no social butterfly, so if I can't wear my blue jeans and a t-shirt, pullover, sweater or shirt, I don't attend. That's my fashion. I'm always neat, but I don't dress up. If I should have to go to a funeral, I'll borrow something from my sister.
I still wear bib overalls as I did in high school...I do like gauchos with wedgie shoes...I went through a Stevie Nicks era in high school with the black satin, shawls and boots...But all in all, give me some jeans, a nice pair of boots or wedgie shoes, a pretty blouse...My hair done with some light make-up with lipstick and that's it...
I was always a little to the side of center.
Today it seems as everybody is. It is an everything goes, wear what ever you wish. Some people are choosing without really seeing the reality of how they look, in some cases it is pretty unflattering!
Most of my life, I've traveled to the beat of a different drummer. When I was in junior high and high school, I went with some clothing trends, but as an adult I choose what I like and want, not because it is the style.
Never have been, never will be.Chasing all these trends shows a person is insecure as an individual.
Footwear should be dictated by comfort and practicality.
It's pretty hard not to be, because when a fashion trend becomes really popular, it's all you can find in the stores. That's probably why I've always stuck with jeans and casual tops...you can't go wrong with those.
Not me ... however ...
Every generation is amused by previous fashions but readily embrace the new. Some day in the future, folks will be chuckling at "hanging boxer shorts".
My grandma is really into fashion, lol, seriously. She lives at Kohl's.
I did dabble a little!, , blue suede shoes. D.A. hair cut. But I was more into the flannels, white scarf, and miltary style raincoats.....
no im a function type not form but i think if you have the build and the money it is great to see a sharply dressed person.
I've wore T-shirts and blue jeans since I can remember. If they are hip or not I don't know or care. They are what I like and feel comfortable in. So no I don't care what the trend is.
I like to have a fashionable T-shirt to wear with my jeans.lol.
Nope - I wear what I want, when I want and I do not care what anyone else thinks - I do not bow down to the fashion scams that come around every ten years or so..
are jeans and tee that says padres in style? oh i forgot my clarks slides..and shades...yep, i m cool.
I was my own follower of fashion, since I had always wanted to be a fashion designer but never made it though...I did lots of sewing of my own clothes and switch things around from the patterns and fabrics I was always admired by what I wore in school..My favorite clothes was the long short sleeve vest that was down to my calf and matching pant that was loose and flare like..and made my own blouse with silk fabric and matching buttons..but I had fun in those days and it was cheaper to make clothes too back in them days..nowadays I just wear sweats!! and t-shirts, but my daughter gets after me if we go shopping or something she'll say "MOM can't you wear something better then that!!"...LOL =)
Didn't go to your links, but I did pay attention to what was going on as the decades changed, and never bought anything in fashion that was impractical for a 9-to-5 job. Never had a heel over 3.5", never wanted a bikini, love the midi's too. Loved halter tops. Loved loafers and still do. If I were a young adult now, I'd avoid these mini's, showing your navel and anything else that invites trouble. And wear scarves just for the fun of combining what colors are in them. Also handle bad hair days with hats. What's available for our ages now is too boring, too classic, too everybody-else to suit me. I look for flowy thangs.
When I was young I was very fashionable. By the time I was married and had two kids I was all about comfort. Now that I am 63 I try to look good but I also try not to spend a lot of money doing it. If I have to dress up, for example, I try to find a nice blouse or sweater to go with my rather expensive pair of classic black dress pants. My fashion comes from my shoes and they, too, have to be comfortable. I LOVE Rocket Dog shoes. They are fun AND comfy. Most of the time I wear sweat pants at home and sweatshirts or tee shirts with jeans when I go out. I have a HUGE collection of logo (Detroit Red Wings, Michigan State University, Detroit Tigers) tee shirts and sweatshirts and I love to show them off.
I was a follower of fashion when I was a teen and a young adult. Then I got to the point where I would incorporate a few "new" things each season into my basic attire. If hemlines were short....mine got changed to a shorter hemline...though one attractive to me, not necessarily as short as the fashion books were showing.
I loved the midi skirts...solved a lot of problems for me. But, then saw pictures from a family gathering...I am so short that I looked positively absurd in midi skirts....hadn't realized it until I saw the pictures. Stopped wearing them!
I tend to wear conservative clothing anyway....Chanel-type suits that haven't varied a whole lot since she invented them...I still see versions of them in fashion magazines. Preppy sort of casual attire is my cup of tea...never goes out of style.
As spring continues, I will be out in bermuda shorts that come nearly to my knee...bare feet shoved down into loafers or topsiders....tailored blouse....cardigan sweater.
Heck, no, I think it is absurd to be out buying a bunch of clothes you don't need just because you are obsessed with being a sheep that responds to the "go buy something" message contained in the media.
With our economies on the verge of collapse as the crisis in the oil countries continues...anyone who is out buying one single thing that is not an absolute necessity is crazy. Everyone should be saving every dime for the days ahead that are going to be very tough ones for everyone.
The Republicans are going to slash again and again into benefits for the old, the sick. Investment funds are close to peril again because of the oil situation. There is no job growth because Americans refuse to support American jobs by purchasing only American-made goods. Cities and states are going bankrupt because people shop on-line...with the result that the taxes that ought to be paid on local purchases ISN'T paid...and it costs jobs in one's own neighborhood.
So, about the last thing anyone ought to be doing is going out and buying foreign-made clothes they don't need....just because some magazine is trying to convince them to do it.
As a youngster, I was not allowed to wear the fashionable items such as mini skirts. Mini skirts and gogo boots were popular and Dad, being a minister, had a dress code in our home. All dresses had to be knee length and skirts too. I could not wear jeans either. In fact, the first pair of jeans I wore were after his death! So, I was taught at an early age not to expect to follow fashion. I so desired too, though!
As a young adult, this changed when I went into interior decorating. My business depended upon my personal presentation as well as my proposal for a job! In as much, I lived years having to maintain my wardrobe. This taught me the love of fashion and mixing and matching textured fabrics.
Since retiring, I dress for comfort and have put the fashionista in me away. It was fun but I deserve the right to live a simple, comfortable life now.
