How can I tell which motherboard do I need for my Dell?

I have a Dell Inspiron 5100. I need to purchase a motherboard. I need to know what motherboard to purchase. Does it say anywhere on the laptop? Is there a website I can go to, to find out?How can I tell which motherboard do I need for my Dell?In order to find out what motherboard you have in your 5100, you will need to call Dell, ask them to give you a part number for your motherboard and have them transfer you to the parts department. They will be able to tell you what kind it is and what the cost is. You don't have to purchase anything right then, but at least you will have a price and will be able to go from there.

Just for future information that might come in handy, here is the specs sheet for your system:

Click on the below link, enter your service tag number then click on the tab at in the middle that says "Original System Configuration". That list will tell you everything that came on your system when you purchased it.

your best bet is to go to www.ebay.com and search for a dell inspiron 5100 motherboard and buy it there trust me it will be cheaper than buying it from dellHow can I tell which motherboard do I need for my Dell? For a laptop you must have exactly the motherboard intended for your computer, or you will likely never get the case closed again!! Even the smallest differences in the "runs" (runs are separate batches of manufactured units) can mean not getting the thing to fit in your laptops case - and most places that will sell you that board will not let you return it without as least charging you a restocking fee of, say, 15%.How can I tell which motherboard do I need for my Dell?
